The Greek Guiding Museum

The Greek Guiding Museum “IRENE KALIGA” that was founded in 2005, in Thessaloniki, at Billy Guiding Centre, is named after the founder of Guiding in Greece.

The small Museum’s halls, host memories of the 79 years history of Greek Guiding.  The exhibition includes unique memorabilia, objects, uniforms, pictures, letters and other items gathered by the Greek Guiding Association.

It is important to note that the majority of the exhibits were donated by former Guides and that collecting and organizing the exhibits was an activity that involved cooperation with many Troops and  Former Guides for several years from all over Greece.  The visitor can actually live through the programs and activities realized by Guiding in Greece since 1932.

The Section and the Troops of Cooperation of Guides (Adult Guides), financed the creation and continue to support the operation of the Museum. This is one of the most important activities of the Section and the Troops of the Adult Guides in Greece, who organize various events and fund raising activities in order to help the development of the Greek Guiding Museum on a national and international level through meetings, presentations, and publications such as a diary for 2007 and post cards that were created to increase awareness of the Museum.

The Museum will continue to grow and more exhibits will enrich the current collection so as to offer to both old and young, a heritage to be proud of.
